Halifax-Based Emera Reaches $14.3 Billion Merger Deal With Canadian Utilities
Halifax utility parent company Emera has entered into a definitive agreement to merge with Alberta’s Canadian Utilities in a deal valued at $14.3 billion. The transaction creates an energy infrastructure powerhouse with combined assets estimated at $72 billion.
Emera, which owns Nova Scotia Power and natural gas assets in Florida, stated that the combined corporation will more than double its utility customer base. Corporate leaders pointed to growing demand across North American electrical grids driven by electrification and industrial data centres as a central motivation for consolidating balance sheets and generation capacity.
