Medical issue forces Marine Atlantic vessel to turn back to Cape Breton
A Marine Atlantic vessel was forced to turn back towards Cape Breton after a medical issue on board during a crossing between North Sydney and Argentia in September.
The Ala’suinu departed from North Sydney around 8 p.m. on Sept. 6 after the company was experiencing weather-related challenges from a storm system that moved through the area.
Once the vessel departed, it changed course back to North Sydney around 11 p.m., due to a medical issue. However, after medical consultations and onboard assessments, it was determined at approximately 1 a.m. that the vessel could resume course to Argentia.
The vessel turned back towards Newfoundland and Labrador and arrived in Argentia at approximately 2 p.m. on Sept. 7.
Marine Atlantic didn’t say what the medical issue was and no update was provided on the passenger and their status.
