The Southwest Nova RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged a Wilmot man with firearms offences.

The unit, with assistance from Annapolis District RCMP, executed a search warrant in 15,000 block of Highway 1 in Wilmot on Oct. 23.

A 39-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were arrested at the property while another man was arrested at a separate location.

Police said in an Oct. 28 news release that officers seized a rifle with a suppressor, a shotgun, a semi-automatic rifle, multiple prohibited magazines, ammunition-making equipment, and 10,000 rounds of various calibres of ammunition during the search.

Lawrence Richard Toole, 54, has been charged with four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, three counts of possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, and four counts of careless storage of a firearm.

Toole was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Annapolis Royal provincial court on Dec. 14.

The woman was wanted for failing to appear in court in relation to outstanding charges. She was released and given a new court date. The 26-year-old man was released without charges.

The investigation is ongoing with support from the RCMP’s National Weapons Enforcement Support Team.
