Hike the Highlands Continues Across Cape Breton
CAPE BRETON — Hikers from across Canada and beyond are exploring northern Cape Breton this week as the Hike the Highlands Festival continues.
The annual event runs September 12 through 18 and features organized hikes throughout the Cape Breton Highlands and communities along the Cabot Trail.
The festival combines guided hiking with evening activities and is timed as the Highlands begin their transition toward fall.
Routes vary in difficulty, allowing participants to explore coastal landscapes, mountain trails and some of the island’s best-known wilderness areas.
This year’s event marks another September tourism draw for northern Cape Breton following a difficult start to the month caused by major flooding.
