Hockey Nova Scotia introduces consent and anti-hazing education
More than 2,000 young hockey players will participate in a mandatory pilot program covering consent, hazing and healthy team relationships.
Hockey Nova Scotia is working with Halifax’s Avalon sexual assault support organization on the initiative for under-15 players.
The program builds on an earlier webinar for parents and coaches. It aims to help players recognize harassment, coercion and harmful behaviour that can be presented as team bonding.
Organizers say changing team culture also requires participation from coaches, administrators and parents.
