Kingsport Man Sentenced In Kentville Court Following Tragic Domestic Manslaughter
A judge in Kentville has sentenced Douglas Andrew Smith to six years in prison for the manslaughter of his 72-year-old wife, Iris Dodd. Smith previously entered a guilty plea stemming from the 2022 incident at their home in Kingsport.
Court proceedings detailed how Dodd suffered from severe health problems, and the couple faced immediate eviction from their rental property. Following Dodd’s death, Smith drove to the New Minas RCMP detachment, called emergency dispatchers from the parking lot, and surrendered to officers. With credit applied for pre-trial custody, Smith will serve approximately five years and seven months, alongside a lifetime firearms prohibition.
