Michael J. Fox Being Promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada
Canadian actor and Parkinson’s disease advocate Michael J. Fox is receiving one of the country’s highest honours today.
Fox is being promoted from Officer to Companion of the Order of Canada during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.
The Companion level is the Order’s highest degree.
Rideau Hall says Fox is being recognized for his global advocacy and openness about living with Parkinson’s disease.
Through the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the Canadian-born actor has helped raise approximately $2.5 billion for Parkinson’s research.
Fox is one of 51 people being appointed to or promoted within the Order of Canada during Friday’s ceremony.
His acting career includes Family Ties, the Back to the Future films and Spin City.
