Women describe years-long waits for specialist care
Nova Scotia women are calling for faster access to care after describing lengthy specialist waits at a news conference Wednesday.
Haley Smith, 36, said she had been told to expect a four- to five-year wait for a gynecologist despite prolonged bleeding and diagnosed gynecological conditions.
Kelly Jacques described a projected three- to four-year wait for a specialist consultation.
The women spoke at an event organized by the opposition NDP, which is proposing changes to health-care access and oversight.
Health Minister Michelle Thompson said the government is working to improve women’s health services. She said a new clinical collaborative will assess needs, including gynecology staffing.
