Safe charging is the focus of Fire Prevention Week
Nova Scotians are being asked to review how they charge everyday devices during Fire Prevention Week, which runs October 4–10.
The provincial fire-safety campaign focuses on lithium-ion batteries in phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes and other rechargeable equipment.
Officials recommend using an approved charger, placing devices on a hard, flat surface away from flammable materials and unplugging them when charging is complete. Devices should not be charged on beds or couches, under pillows, or near escape routes. Damaged batteries and charging equipment should not be used.
